The Book Coven

[ARC Review] 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

Tom Valeska has an animal inside him, and I’ve felt it every time he’s looked at me.

Darcy is a badass photographer with a bad heart working at a bar. Tom is her childhood friend taking on his first house-flipping job. Darcy and Tom will butt heads and hearts as Darcy tries to get Tom to see her as more than just a little sister. Though, they will face opposition from a fierce opponent: Darcy's twin brother, Jamie.

99 Percent Mine has a compelling cast of characters with complex dynamics. Darcy is a bad-ass that does not let anything hold her back from what she wants. Her twin brother, Jamie, has very different opinions on the life that she should be leading and this has made their childhood friend, Tom, the referee between them. Things are, of course, complicated, and this leads to that perfect romantic tension that only Sally can create.

The slow-burn romance in this book is spectacular. You could light a fire with the heat that Darcy and Tom give off, while the tension just builds until the finale when everything comes to a head. The payoff is absolutely worth the wait and the book is absolutely perfection.

The only part of this book that didn't work is the relationship between Truly and Jamie. Sally's trying hard to make a happy ending for all her characters, and there just was not enough lead up to it in the book for it to be anything but bizarre.

Darcy is sarcastic and witty which keeps the narration snappy and the reader begging for more. Sally Thorne is a genius in the contemporary romance genre, and this book is the perfection that only she can create.
